Do any of you follow "True Blood," the Showtime series about vampires in Louisiana?
I mention them because I believe the opening credits of the series has an homage to Murnau's Nosferatu. Specifically the scenes of creepy weird animals from nature--snakes and decaying possums and even a venus fly trap--refer back to the Paracelsian scenes in which Professor Bulwer lectures on Venus Flytraps and tentacled polyps. Take a look at the opening to "True Blood."
Good find! Watching the first few bits of the trailer, I was skeptical about the connections, but when the venus flytrap shot came on, I was like "aHA!"
ReplyDeleteThe wolfish looking creature reminded me of the scene with the "werewolf" in Nosferatu as well.
I thought that the most intriguing clip from the trailer was the kid eating strawberries and licking his red-stained lips. It was creepy, and the irony behind it made it more so, as it turned what is usually a joyful experience into a metaphorically sinful and supernatural one.
Final observation: the women in this trailer were portrayed as very provocative and sexual, versus the pure maidenly persona of Ellen in Nosferatu.
