Re: Consistency in Nazi Propaganda

Piggybacking on Sophie's provocative post, I wanted to share with you all an image still found today throughout Germany. It's called the Judensau (Jew pig) and depicts Jews partaking in indecent activities with pigs, sometimes in consort with the devil. In many such images, they might be having intercourse with pigs, eating pig excrement or suckling from a sow. These images were created during and after the middle ages for exhibition on cathedrals, churches, and public buildings in Germany.

There has been much dispute over these clearly offensive images, and while in many cases they have been removed, there are still instances where German municipal and church authorities have refused to remove these "works of art." In Wittenberg, the engraving above still remains, but on the ground next to it has been placed a monument of concrete slabs with bubbles seeping up from between the cracks in the slabs, pushing them apart. It's supposed to "represent the truth that bubbles up in spite of oppression and the weight of those who try to cover it up."
